Samsung’s New Galaxy XR Headset Is Almost Here — Here’s What You Need to Know

0

In December last year, Samsung gave us the first official peek at its upcoming Galaxy XR headset, codenamed “Project Moohan.” The device runs on Android XR, a special operating system created with Google and Qualcomm, designed specifically for extended reality (XR) experiences. Earlier this year, Samsung showcased the headset again at their Galaxy Unpacked event alongside the launch of the new Galaxy S25 series.

Now, the wait is almost over. Samsung just announced a new Galaxy Event set for October 21, where the Galaxy XR headset will officially launch. This headset is a big deal — it’s the very first product to run on the open and scalable Android XR platform, developed through that collaboration with Google and Qualcomm.

Like other Galaxy events, you can catch the livestream on Samsung.com, Samsung Newsroom, or Samsung’s YouTube channel on October 21 at 10 p.m. ET.

If you’re interested in grabbing one, here’s a bonus: anyone who reserves the Galaxy XR headset during the launch period will get a $100 Samsung Credit when they purchase the device between October 21 and November 16, 2025.

From what we’ve seen in early hands-on impressions, here’s the lowdown on the Galaxy XR headset:

  • It features colorful fabric materials and a big reflective front panel, kind of like the Apple Vision Pro.
  • Unlike the Vision Pro, it doesn’t have an external eye display — users’ eyes stay hidden — but it does come with
a magnetic, removable light shield to block out ambient light.
  • The headset has an adjustable head strap for a comfortable fit.
  • It’s powered by a Snapdragon chipset, neatly housed in a slim metallic front frame.
  • The battery is removable and replaceable without any tools — super convenient.
  • Controls include a button on the top right, volume rockers on the left, and a touchpad on the right side.
  • You can move, resize, and place apps anywhere in the XR space using hand gestures.
  • It supports Android apps, including the Google Play Store and YouTube.
  • Gemini AI is the default assistant, managing voice commands, on-screen interactions, and multitasking.
  • Circle to Search is integrated, making searching easy and intuitive.

This Galaxy XR headset represents a big step for Android into the spatial computing world, which has been largely led by Apple and Meta until now. For more details, check out the official announcement on Samsung’s site.
