Nintendo Switch To Add New Free Game You Shouldn’t Miss

Nintendo Switch Online is treating fans to a spooky surprise this Halloween season — a classic game you won’t want to miss.

If you’re subscribed to Nintendo Switch Online, you probably appreciate the perks beyond online multiplayer or cloud saves. The growing library of free classic games has quickly become one of the service’s biggest draws, especially for nostalgia lovers. Depending on your tier, you can explore titles from the NES, SNES, N64, and now, the GameCube era.

Starting October 30, Luigi’s Mansion will officially join the Nintendo GameCube – Nintendo Classics app for all Switch Online + Expansion Pack subscribers. The timing couldn’t be better — this ghost-busting adventure lands right before Halloween.

This marks the sixth GameCube title added to the service this year, joining The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker, F-Zero GX, SOULCALIBUR II, Super Mario Strikers, and Chibi-Robo!.

There’s a catch, though. GameCube titles are currently exclusive to Nintendo Switch 2 users, as the original Switch hardware doesn’t support them — likely due to the extra processing power required.

Originally released in 2001 for the GameCube, Luigi’s Mansion was the first Mario series title to launch on that console. Players take control of Luigi as he explores a haunted mansion filled with mischievous ghosts, armed only with his trusty vacuum to capture them and save his brother Mario.

The franchise went on to spawn two sequels: Luigi’s Mansion: Dark Moon (or Luigi’s Mansion 2) on the 3DS — later re-released on Switch — and Luigi’s Mansion 3 in 2019. The 2001 original also received a 3DS remake in 2018, with improved visuals and touch controls.

With Luigi’s Mansion now joining the Nintendo Classics lineup, fans can finally play the entire trilogy on Nintendo Switch 2 — a perfect treat for the spooky season.

It may not be the full-blown remaster fans have been hoping for, especially after the recent Super Mario Galaxy and Super Mario Galaxy 2 remasters, but it’s still a welcome addition — and a hint that perhaps Luigi’s next haunting isn’t too far away.
