Google Photos continues to be one of the most active testing grounds for the company’s latest AI experiments—and the next upgrade could take personalization to a new level. Following recent additions like Instagram-style text tools and AI-powered photo-to-video transformations, Google appears to be preparing a feature designed for memes.
According to code spotted by Android Authority in version 7.51.0 of the Google Photos Android app, Google is developing a Gemini-powered “Me Meme” feature. As the name suggests, it would allow users to generate customized memes starring themselves or their friends, using a combination of selfie recognition and meme templates.
Early findings suggest that users could upload a reference photo, pick a meme format, and let Gemini insert their likeness directly into popular templates—one example being the classic “This is fine” meme. Though the feature remains in early testing, it’s likely to launch with several other meme styles once it debuts.
Still Under Wraps — But Working
As with all APK teardowns, finding code doesn’t guarantee a public release. That said, Android Authority’s team managed to partially activate the feature, hinting that Google might indeed roll out “Me Meme” in some form. It’s unclear whether it will depend on Gemini Nano—the lightweight on-device model—but given Google’s push for AI on Android devices, it’s a strong possibility.
There’s currently no timeline for release. The feature will reportedly require a selfie or reference photo that’s already backed up to Google Photos, and the app will suggest images where your face is clearly visible for best results.
Still, “Me Meme” feels like a natural next step for Google in 2025. As the company leans further into personalized, AI-driven creativity, turning yourself into a meme might just become the next viral trend powered by Gemini.
