If you’re craving a game that captures the same futuristic grit and atmosphere as Cyberpunk 2077, keep your eyes on the horizon for Neo Berlin 2087, the next big thing in dystopian sci-fi gaming.
Developed by Elysium Game Studio, Neo Berlin 2087 is an action RPG that blends first- and third-person perspectives within a rich, cyberpunk-inspired world. Set in a futuristic version of Berlin, players step into the shoes of Nolan, a detective haunted by his past and drawn into a web of conspiracy and emotion.
Described by the studio as “a deep, cinematic detective thriller,” the game promises an emotional journey through themes of justice, friendship, guilt, sacrifice, and betrayal. Following the murder of the police chief, Nolan must protect the chief’s daughter, Natalie—who may hold the key to uncovering why her father was targeted. Their investigation unfolds into something that could shake the entire city, revealing that their destinies are bound in unimaginable ways.
Players will traverse both the neon-drenched streets of Berlin and the desolate outskirts known as the Wasteland—a refuge for outcasts and sentient machines. The contrast between the city’s high-tech glow and the Wasteland’s decay aims to deliver a world both visually striking and narratively rich.
One major question remains: how exactly will the dual first- and third-person perspectives work? It’s unclear whether players can seamlessly switch between the two or if each will serve specific mission types. That mystery, however, adds to the intrigue.
A new gameplay trailer unveiled at this year’s Gamescom suggests that development is progressing steadily, even if some scenes appear a little rough around the edges. With time still on the studio’s side, there’s reason to be optimistic that Neo Berlin 2087 will iron out any early performance issues.
No release date has been confirmed yet. Storefront listings still range from “TBA” to “2026,” but anticipation is already building among sci-fi fans and RPG enthusiasts alike.
In the meantime, those still roaming the streets of Night City can take solace in knowing that Cyberpunk 2077’s official sequel—Project Orion—is also on the horizon. CD Projekt Red plans to begin full development once The Witcher 4 is complete, so it looks like the golden age of neon-soaked futures is only just beginning.
