Battlefield 6 Aims For Call of Duty Jugular, Shadowdrop ‘Confirmed’

The rivalry between Call of Duty and Battlefield has sparked once more, but this time, Battlefield 6 may have found the ultimate edge in the FPS war.

Released on 10 October 2025, Battlefield 6 quickly reignited the franchise’s glory days, earning praise from fans for its massive battles, tactical gameplay, and improved performance. Yet, its fiercest competitor, Call of Duty: Black Ops 7, is set to arrive on 14 November, ensuring the rest of the year will be dominated by a head-to-head shooter showdown.

Battlefield’s Bold Move

Amid this competition, a major report from reliable industry insider Tom Henderson has revealed that the long-rumored Battlefield 6 Battle Royale mode will shadowdrop on 28 October 2025, coinciding with the start of Season 1. EA and DICE have tested the mode extensively within Battlefield Labs, and early datamines referencing a “Granite” project strongly suggest a fully realized Battle Royale experience.

If true, this would mirror EA’s surprise release of Apex Legends back in 2019—another battle royale that launched without prior marketing and dominated the genre. Insider sources indicate that this new Battlefield experience may be free-to-play, allowing it to compete directly with Warzone and Fortnite.

The Fall of Warzone?

While Call of Duty: Warzone revolutionized the battle royale FPS scene in 2020, its player base has diminished recently—setting the stage for Battlefield 6 to strike when Warzone is at its weakest. Some analysts have gone as far as calling this update “the final nail in the coffin for Warzone”.

Season 1: Rogue Ops

Launching alongside the rumored mode, Season 1—titled Rogue Ops—will deliver a major infusion of fresh content. This includes the Blackwell Fields map set in a fiery Californian airbase, the intense new Strikepoint 4v4 tactical mode, and a loadout of fresh weapons like the SQR-300 Carbine, Mini Fix sniper rifle, and GGH-22 pistol. The update will also add new vehicles, attachments, and monthly drops continuing through December.

A Revitalized Future for Battlefield

The new Battlefield 6 has already sold over seven million copies in less than a week, a milestone that showcases the franchise’s comeback. Players are praising DICE and EA for finally understanding what modern FPS audiences crave—large-scale warfare balanced with faster-paced, tactical experiences.

And if this upcoming Battle Royale mode successfully launches on 28 October, it might not just revive Battlefield. It could redefine the entire competitive FPS landscape heading into 2026.
