5 New Features Coming With macOS Tahoe 26.1

With the Release Candidate version of macOS Tahoe 26.1 now in developers’ hands, Apple has all but finalized its next major software update — expected to roll out to all Mac users as early as next week. This update carries special significance: macOS Tahoe is the final major upgrade for Intel-based Macs, marking the end of an era before Apple transitions fully to Apple Silicon devices in 2026.

Refined Design and Customization

Even as support winds down, Apple continues to bring modern design elements to Intel Macs. The standout addition is the Liquid Glass interface, a visual overhaul that’s been in testing for several months. After feedback on transparency and readability, Apple is introducing a new customization toggle that lets users choose between the default clear look or a tinted version with enhanced opacity for app windows and notifications. This added flexibility improves legibility — a thoughtful refinement that many hope will eventually come to iOS as well.

Functional Improvements and Smarter Features

macOS Tahoe 26.1 also broadens the Mac’s multimedia and communication capabilities. Apple Music Automix over AirPlay debuts in this release, enabling seamless song transitions and smart mixing even when streaming wirelessly. FaceTime gets smarter too, with improved audio quality under low‑bandwidth conditions, ensuring clearer calls on weaker connections.

For younger users, new communication safety tools and web content filters are automatically applied by default to accounts aged 13–17 in supported regions. These safeguards aim to block inappropriate content and offer parents more peace of mind.

Expanding Apple Intelligence

Apple’s AI‑driven system, Apple Intelligence, is also becoming more globally accessible. The Live Translation feature now supports eight additional languages: Danish, Dutch, Norwegian, Swedish, Turkish, Vietnamese, Portuguese (Portugal), and Chinese (Traditional). This expansion reflects Apple’s continued investment in natural‑language technologies across its platforms.

Alongside macOS Tahoe 26.1 RC, Apple has seeded release candidate builds of iOS, iPadOS, watchOS, tvOS, and visionOS version 26.1. All of these updates are expected to arrive publicly soon, completing Apple’s fall 2025 software rollout.
