Spotify keeps finding new ways to make your listening experience more personal, and its AI DJ feature is one of the best examples of that effort. The AI DJ curates playlists powered by Spotify’s recommendation algorithms and even includes a virtual DJ who talks about the songs and artists featured. Earlier this year, Spotify expanded this feature by letting subscribers make voice requests, allowing them to ask for specific songs or recommendations directly.
Now, Spotify is taking that interaction a step further. The company has announced text requests and personalized prompts for the AI DJ — a handy option for moments when speaking aloud isn’t ideal, like sitting in a noisy café or a quiet train car.
Text your DJ for music requests
The new text-based system lets you type your requests directly into the app. Spotify says the feature — available in both English and Spanish — is one of the most requested updates from users on social media.
To try it, open the Spotify app, search for DJ, and tap on the DJ playlist. Then, tap the blue-and-green button in the bottom-right corner. From there, you can choose to interact with the DJ either by voice or by typing. Spotify will also suggest personalized prompts based on your mood or listening habits to help you discover new music effortlessly.
You can even make more complex requests. For example, typing something like “play some cozy folk music for fall” will prompt the DJ to create a playlist that fits that vibe. It’s a simple way to get a custom mix tailored to your exact mood or situation.
If you haven’t tried Spotify’s AI DJ yet, this might be the perfect time. The feature’s growing popularity has already inspired competitors — YouTube Music is now testing its own AI-powered hosts. So far, Apple Music hasn’t introduced a rival feature, giving Spotify another edge in the race to define the future of personalized streaming.
