Montréal-based developer Red Barrels has announced that The Outlast Trials will receive a chilling new addition next week: the Invasion PvP Mode, launching on October 21, right on schedule for Halloween.
In this new mode, accessible through the Sleep Room Terminals, players can step into the role of either a Reagent or an Imposter. Only a few Imposters can directly invade a given Trial, while the others act as remote support—scouting and feeding intel to their bloodthirsty teammates. Once an Imposter’s allies complete their sabotage—or fall victim to it—new opportunities open to join the deadly hunt firsthand.
Key Features of Invasion Mode
- Become the Hunter: Stalk your prey through the shadows, relying on silence and cunning to close in before
striking. - Surveil the Trials: Study surveillance camera footage to plan your route and anticipate enemy movements. Team
coordination and timing are everything. - Don a Deadly Disguise: Wear the guise and skin of fallen Reagents to lull survivors into a false sense of
safety—then turn on them when they least expect it. - Strike Without Mercy: Combat is strictly up-close and personal. Whether through quick jabs or a single decisive
stab, one mistake can seal your fate in the arena.
A Halloween-Sized Update
Alongside the PvP Invasion Mode, the October 21 update introduces the Geister 2025 time-limited event and catalog, two new MK-Challenges—Beguile the Children and Investigate the Minotaur—plus the debut of an all-new In-Game Store.
Since its full release on March 5, 2024, across PC, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X|S, The Outlast Trials has maintained strong momentum, with fan reviews largely positive and Steam sales estimated at two to three million units. With PvP now entering the mix, Red Barrels looks ready to push its twisted multiplayer experiment into even darker territory.
