Samsung unveiled the Galaxy XR headset last month, a spatial computing device comparable to Apple’s Vision Pro. Priced at $1,799.99 and available in both Korea and the U.S., the Galaxy XR offers similar advanced mixed reality experiences for about half the cost of Apple’s headset. Powered by Google’s Android XR operating system, this headset marks Samsung’s first foray into extended reality. The company is also developing Android XR smart glasses that aim to compete with products like Ray-Ban Meta and other AI-powered smart glasses. Recent leaks hint that the launch of Samsung’s first XR smart glasses may be imminent, revealing some hardware details of the upcoming device.
At the Galaxy XR launch, Samsung confirmed its work on AI smart glasses. In collaboration with Google, Samsung is partnering with Warby Parker, a lifestyle brand known for combining technology with stylish eyewear to enhance customer experience. Additionally, Samsung is teaming up with Gentle Monster to create fashion-forward, AI-native smart glasses that blend technology with cultural and design leadership. Samsung describes these devices as combining advanced XR capabilities with style, comfort, and practicality, intending to seamlessly integrate discovery, work, and play into everyday life, though specific details remain under wraps.
About a month after the announcement, Dutch blog Galaxy Club revealed information about one of Samsung’s XR eyewear products, codenamed SM-O200P. It is not yet confirmed whether this device is from the Warby Parker or Gentle Monster collaboration.
Regarding the hardware, Galaxy Club reports that Samsung’s XR glasses will feature transition lenses that darken in sunlight, though it is unclear if these lenses will serve as displays showing content directly in front of the user’s eyes. Similar to Meta’s AI glasses, which come in both display and non-display versions, Samsung’s approach to Android XR glasses may follow suit. The Android XR platform is centered around Gemini AI but also supports augmented reality (AR) features demonstrated by Google in late 2024 and at I/O 2025, though AR capabilities are not mandatory for these devices.
The leaked information also mentions that Samsung’s XR glasses will include a camera and support Wi-Fi and Bluetooth connectivity, but they will require pairing with a smartphone for internet access, mirroring the functionality seen in competing products and Google’s vision for Android XR. It’s expected the glasses will incorporate a microphone and speakers, enabling interaction with the Gemini AI assistant. This AI can assist with environmental queries, navigation, notifications, and even messaging, all without needing to take the phone out. Additionally, Gemini AI will offer translation features to enhance user convenience.
Interestingly, at I/O 2025, Google mentioned both Warby Parker and Gentle Monster, the same brands Samsung is collaborating with, although Google did not provide a timeline for its smart glasses launch. Galaxy Club did not specify a release date for the Samsung XR glasses but noted the SM-O200P model is developed for the U.S. market, with a probable release scheduled for 2026.
