Meta is taking Reels global with AI-powered translations that capture not just the meaning, but the voice of creators — making videos sound just like the original, even in another language.
Meta AI now supports four languages

Back in August, Meta — the parent company of Facebook, Instagram, Threads, and WhatsApp — began rolling out bidirectional English and Spanish translations for Reels creators. The goal was simple: help creators break language barriers and connect with larger audiences worldwide.

Now, that feature is expanding to include two more major languages: Hindi and Portuguese. With billions of speakers across India, Brazil, and other regions, the addition significantly broadens Reels’ global reach. Meta has also confirmed that even more languages are on the way.
Who can access it

Reels translation tools powered by Meta AI are free to use. They’re currently available to:

  • Facebook creators with at least 1,000 followers
  • All public Instagram accounts in countries where Meta AI is available

It’s worth noting that Meta’s AI tools often roll out regionally, so access may differ depending on location. However, the U.S. remains a key testing ground, where many AI-powered Meta features debut first.

How Meta AI translations work

Using advanced voice-cloning technology, Meta AI replicates the creator’s tone and vocal style while translating their speech into another language. This makes the translated version feel natural — almost like the creator is multilingual.

A lip-syncing feature is also available, aligning the translated audio with the speaker’s mouth movements for a smoother viewing experience.

Every translated Reel includes a “Translated with Meta AI” label, keeping the process transparent. Viewers who prefer the original audio can disable translations anytime via the “Don’t translate” option in the language settings menu.

Meta emphasizes that creator feedback shaped much of this rollout. The company says the goal is to make global content sharing easier — no multiple recordings, no complex editing, just one Reel that reaches audiences across languages.

With translations now available between English, Spanish, Hindi, and Portuguese, creators can engage some of the world’s most active social media communities with a single upload.
