If you’ve been waiting for Halo Studios — the rebranded 343 Industries — to finally bring the legendary Halo franchise to PlayStation, your patience is about to pay off. On October 24, Halo Studios announced Halo: Campaign Evolved, a full remake of the original Halo: Combat Evolved campaign, set to launch on PlayStation 5 in 2026. While a firm release date hasn’t been revealed, the studio confirmed that it will debut “day and date” on Sony’s console alongside other platforms.
The remake will also arrive on Xbox Series X|S, Windows PC, and Steam, complete with Xbox Play Anywhere and Cloud Gaming support. Still, the biggest surprise is Halo’s long-awaited debut on PlayStation, marking a historic shift for the franchise. The announcement came directly from Brian “ske7ch” Jarrard, Halo Studios’ Community Director, in a blog post on PlayStation’s official site.
“For nearly 25 years, Halo has offered players an epic sci-fi universe to explore, unforgettable characters to meet, and exhilarating gameplay to experience together,” Jarrard wrote. “Now, for the first time, PS5 players will get to be part of that journey too.”
What Is Halo: Campaign Evolved?
According to Halo Studios, this isn’t a simple rerelease or a basic graphical overhaul. Halo: Campaign Evolved has been rebuilt from the ground up, reimagining the classic 2001 adventure with modern visuals, improved gameplay, and entirely new content.
Much like The Master Chief Collection, which previously modernized several Halo titles, this new version aims to preserve the feel of the original while upgrading every aspect of the experience. Players can expect:
- High-definition graphics and reworked cinematics that retell Master Chief’s first mission.
- Refined movement and controls designed for modern FPS sensibilities.
- A fully remastered soundtrack that blends nostalgia with updated orchestration.
- Three new prequel missions expanding the lore before the ringworld discovery.
- Nine additional weapons pulled from across Halo’s history.
The remake also includes four-player online co-op and classic two-player split-screen, plus cross-play and cross-progression between consoles and PC — a first for Halo’s campaign experiences.
The Future of Halo on PlayStation
Microsoft’s decision to bring one of its most iconic franchises to a rival platform might have seemed impossible years ago, but it’s consistent with the company’s evolving strategy. With Xbox Game Pass facing subscription challenges and rising costs, expanding Halo’s reach could help sustain the series while introducing a new generation of PS5 players to Master Chief’s universe.
While Halo: Campaign Evolved focuses on the single-player story, it could also signal a turning point. Jarrard’s comments hinted that this might only be the beginning of Halo’s cross-platform future. Whether this leads to future multiplayer releases or deeper integration across ecosystems, one thing is clear: Halo’s journey is far from over — and for the first time, PlayStation players are officially invited along for the ride.
