Mozilla is updating Firefox with a new Profiles feature designed to help users more easily organize and separate their online activities. Starting October 14th, the update will let you create distinct browsing spaces, each with its own bookmarks, credentials, history, extensions, and theme settings.
Previously, Firefox offered multi-account containers via an extension to keep cookies, browsing history, and tracking data compartmentalized in different tabs for greater privacy. Profiles expand on this idea, enabling broader customization and segregation so you can set up unique environments for work, projects, or personal use.
Each profile maintains its own independent browsing data. You can personalize them with different colors, avatars, and themes, making them instantly recognizable. This works similarly to Chrome’s multiple account profiles, but with stronger privacy controls and without requiring separate email accounts.
Mozilla states that the goal of Profiles is more than just organizing browser tabs — it’s about setting clear boundaries between online roles, reducing mental clutter, and minimizing unexpected crossovers between personal and professional contexts.
