Remedy Entertainment has confirmed that FBC: Firebreak has not met its internal sales targets, despite seeing a bump in player engagement following the recent Breakpoint update.
In a statement to the stock exchange, Remedy acknowledged that the co‑op shooter — set in the Control universe — underperformed in consumer sales shortly after its June launch. On September 29, the studio rolled out Breakpoint, the game’s first major update, which introduced systemic overhauls, fresh content, and refinements to the core gameplay experience. The update succeeded in boosting both player activity and overall sales metrics, but not enough to hit the company’s projections.
“Remedy is recognizing a non‑cash impairment of capitalized development costs and purchased publishing rights related to FBC: Firebreak. While we balance future investment in the title, we will continue improving the game in line with our updated long‑term forecast,” said CEO Tero Virtala.
At launch, Firebreak struggled to attract players, peaking at fewer than 2,000 concurrent Steam users within 24 hours. Reviews pointed to limited variety and features, with only five maps, six weapons, and no text or voice chat or server browser.
Despite its rocky start, Remedy appears committed to supporting Firebreak, aiming to leverage future updates to strengthen its player base and keep the title alive in the long run.
