Anthropic on Monday announced that it has brought Claude Code, its intelligent AI coding assistant, to both the web and the iPhone. This marks a major shift from its earlier terminal-based interface, making the platform far more accessible to a wider range of users. Now, anyone—from professional developers to creative thinkers exploring code-based ideas—can use Claude Code directly through a web browser or the Claude iPhone app.
However, Anthropic clarified that Claude Code for the web is launching as a beta research preview, initially available only to Claude Pro and Claude Max subscribers.
Smarter, Easier Cloud-Based Coding
Claude Code on the web allows developers to assign multiple coding tasks simultaneously—executed in parallel on Anthropic’s managed cloud infrastructure. The browser-based platform supports the same workflows currently possible through the command line, while adding the convenience of a modern web interface.
You can connect to your GitHub repositories, describe tasks in plain language, and Claude will execute them without requiring an open terminal session. Cloud-based task handling means you can queue and adjust multiple projects at once, tracking real-time progress and providing guidance mid-flow—all without interrupting Claude’s operations. Each session runs in a secure, isolated environment, ensuring reliable and uninterrupted workflows.
What’s Needed to Use Claude Code on the Web and iPhone
Running tasks in the cloud is particularly effective for common development needs such as bug fixes, backend updates, or exploring how repositories are structured. To keep user data secure, Claude Code’s cloud environments are sandboxed with strict network and file system restrictions. GitHub interactions go through a dedicated secure proxy, ensuring Claude can only access authorized repositories. Anthropic also noted that developer credentials and code remain fully protected throughout each session.
Developers can configure custom network settings and define exactly which domains Claude Code can access—offering additional flexibility and control.
Availability and Mobile Support
Claude Code for the web is accessible at claude.com/code, but usage requires an active Claude Pro or Claude Max subscription. On iPhone, the tool is debuting as an early preview within the Claude app. Anthropic says it will fine-tune the mobile experience based on community feedback. There’s no confirmed release date yet for Android users.
Anthropic added that cloud-based tasks will share rate limits with other Claude Code usage, ensuring balanced performance across user sessions.
The release follows a series of recent updates from Anthropic, including the introduction of the Claude Sonnet 4.5 frontier model, the lightweight Claude Haiku 4.5, and a new Skills feature designed to expand Claude’s capabilities across disciplines.
