Can iPhones Use Google Fi Wireless?

If you’re searching for a low-cost mobile carrier, there are plenty of budget-friendly plans that won’t drain your wallet. Among the most affordable options is Google Fi Wireless. Launched in 2015, Google Fi runs primarily on T-Mobile’s network towers, offering reliable nationwide coverage across the United States. And while it’s a Google service, it’s not just for Android users—Google Fi works with the iPhone, too.

If you own an iPhone or are considering picking up a new one, you’ll be glad to know that Google Fi Wireless is compatible with most Apple devices. Virtually every iPhone released since the iPhone 8 supports the network, giving users an easy way to switch carriers without upgrading their phone. Just keep in mind two key requirements: your iPhone must be unlocked, and you’ll need to order and install a Google Fi SIM card.

Once connected, Google Fi Wireless lets you make calls, send texts, and use both 4G LTE and 5G data. If you travel internationally, the Flexible and Unlimited Premium plans also offer data and texting in more than 200 countries and regions.

Setting up Google Fi Wireless on your iPhone

If your device meets Google Fi’s compatibility requirements, setup is simple. Before getting started, make sure you have both a Google account and a Google Fi account. You’ll also need your Fi SIM card, which you can order through the Google Fi Store or app.

Follow these steps to get started:

  • Power off your iPhone.
  • Insert the Google Fi SIM card, then power the device back on.
  • Download and open the Google Fi app, then sign in using your Google account.
  • The app will walk you through adjusting your Access Point Name (APN) settings. It may provide a URL you’ll need
    to copy and paste later.
  • On your iPhone, open Settings → Cellular → Cellular Data Options → Cellular Data Network.
  • In each APN field, type h2g2, and paste the provided URL into the MMSC field.
  • Return to the Google Fi app and follow the remaining steps until prompted to restart your device.

After restarting, open the app again to complete the setup wizard. You should now be fully connected to Google Fi.
