Apple TV+ Ditches Plus Sign in a Move To Rebrand and Announces Upcoming F1: The Movie Streaming Premiere

Apple’s streaming service is getting a new name — and dropping a familiar symbol in the process.

Apple TV+ is officially rebranding to Apple TV, marking a sleek new chapter for the platform. “Apple TV+ is now simply Apple TV, with a vibrant new identity,” the company told Variety. The move aligns the streamer’s branding with Apple’s hardware ecosystem, though it may blur the line between its six-year-old streaming platform and the Apple TV device itself.

This makes Apple the latest company to join the rebranding carousel. HBO famously bounced from HBO to HBO Max to Max — and eventually back again to HBO Max — setting a now-familiar precedent in the streaming world.

Alongside the new name, Apple shared major content news: Brad Pitt’s Formula 1 drama, F1: The Movie, will debut on Apple TV (without the plus) globally on December 12.

“It’s been thrilling to see audiences around the world embrace F1: The Movie in theaters,” producer Jerry Bruckheimer told The Hollywood Reporter. “Now, we’re beyond excited to bring this exhilarating, cinematic ride to fans everywhere through Apple TV’s unparalleled global reach.”

The movie has already made a roaring start. Since its theatrical release in late June, F1: The Movie has earned an impressive $629 million worldwide, making it Pitt’s highest-grossing live-action film to date — surpassing World War Z. It also stands as Apple’s most successful theatrical release ever, outperforming Ridley Scott’s Napoleon ($218 million) and Martin Scorsese’s Killers of the Flower Moon ($157 million).

For viewers who want to keep the film beyond its streaming run, F1: The Movie is now available for digital purchase on Apple, Amazon, and other major platforms.

With the rebrand and a blockbuster hit under its belt, Apple TV seems to be entering its next era at full throttle.
