Mafia: The Old Country has just released a free update today, introducing several exciting new features to the game.
When I reviewed Mafia: The Old Country earlier this year, I found it to be a GTA-style game with a lot of potential, but it fell short in a few areas.
Hangar 13 incorporated races, combat, and character customization throughout the game, yet the linear storyline limited the full use of these features.
Although there was an optional explore mode, it offered little to do. However, Hangar 13 soon announced plans to expand the game with additional content.
New content arrives in Mafia: The Old Country
The Free Ride Update launches today, adding a variety of new activities and extras to keep players engaged beyond the end credits.
Firstly, new open-world activities become available after completing the main story. Players can now roam in a “freeform” mode and take on fresh stealth and combat challenges at set locations.
Car and horse races, reminiscent of those seen during the story, have also been introduced. These races could be one of the highlights of the update, especially since the previous ones felt overly scripted.
Meanwhile, Hangar 13 has added a wealth of new cars, outfits, weapons, and charms to collect, along with a new Classic difficulty mode—a great reason to replay the story.
Classic difficulty is a hallmark of past Mafia games, offering more than just tougher enemies. For instance, Mafia: Definitive Edition’s classic mode reduced driving assists, altered ammo mechanics, and deepened melee combat.
Additional fan-friendly features include first-person driving and a “Cinema Siciliano” mode, which applies a vintage film filter similar to the Kurosawa Mode in Ghost of Tsushima and Ghost of Yotei.
There’s also a brand-new photo mode, perfect for capturing the stunning Sicilian landscapes.
All updates will be available today as a free patch for the PC, Xbox Series X/S, and PS5 versions of Mafia: The Old Country.
