We May Have Just Gotten Our First Look At Perplexity’s Comet Browser On Android

0

Perplexity made headlines earlier this year with the launch of its Comet browser, initially available through a limited waitlist. The AI-powered browser is now free to download, but users have been waiting for one big update — a mobile version. That wait may soon be over, as we’ve just gotten our first possible look at Comet for Android.

It’s worth noting that Perplexity has not yet announced any official release timeline for Comet on either iOS or Android. However, eager users can already pre-register for the app on the Google Play Store.

Pre-registration doesn’t necessarily mean a full release is imminent, though. The app could remain in testing for an extended period as the company refines the experience. A longer beta phase might not be a bad thing, especially given ongoing discussions about privacy, personalization, and the potential risks of AI-enhanced browsing. Still, for those curious to see what Comet can do, signing up for early access might be worth it.

Perplexity begins testing Comet on Android

According to a video shared by X user @TheAdwaithVarma (via Android Authority), the Android version of Comet features a clean, minimalist interface. The splash screen welcomes users with “Welcome to Comet” and offers prompt suggestions to start exploring immediately. A chat box sits at the bottom for quick interactions with large language models, and an “Add Widgets” button suggests users can customize their workspace — though details on available widgets remain limited.

Another clip from the same source shows a “Slide to get started” onboarding screen, along with widgets for clocks and frequently visited sites — a familiar setup for most browsers. Comet’s initial desktop release debuted exclusively for Perplexity’s Max subscribers before opening more broadly, so a similar rollout strategy for mobile wouldn’t be surprising.
