New iPhone Fold rumor details screen sizes, possible launch delay

Next year’s iPhone lineup is set to introduce Apple’s first-ever foldable model, potentially named the iPhone Fold or iPhone Ultra. A new report from The Elec reveals updated details on the foldable’s screen sizes and hints at possible production delays.
Smaller Screen Sizes Than Expected

According to a recent research note from Japanese firm Mizuho Securities, shared via The Elec, the iPhone Fold’s screen sizes might be slightly smaller than previously rumored. The updated expectations are:

  • Outer display: 5.38 inches
  • Inner display: 7.58 inches

These measurements are marginally smaller than prior estimates of 5.5 inches for the outer screen and 7.8 inches for the inner display. To put this into perspective, Apple’s current smallest screen is the 6.1-inch iPhone 16e. Among flagships, the iPhone 17 and 17 Pro feature 6.3-inch displays, the iPhone Air offers a 6.5-inch screen, and the iPhone 17 Pro Max leads with 6.9 inches.

When folded, the iPhone Fold’s outer display will be comparable to the now-discontinued iPhone mini, which had a 5.4-inch screen—nearly identical to the Fold’s 5.38-inch display. The inner screen, while slightly smaller than expected, will still be the largest display ever in an iPhone, significantly surpassing current models.
Potential Supply Constraints and Launch Delay

Mizuho also highlights concerns regarding the production timeline. Apple’s extended finalization process, especially concerning the design and hinge mechanism, may impact supply availability. While a fall 2026 launch remains plausible, production challenges could lead to limited initial supply. In a worst-case scenario, if issues persist, the launch might be postponed until 2027.
What to Expect Moving Forward

With about a year to go until the anticipated launch, these specifications and timelines are not set in stone and may evolve. Historically, Apple tends to reveal more concrete details closer to release, so more information on the foldable iPhone should emerge before the end of 2025.
