Apple is reportedly preparing a significant executive reshuffle ahead of the planned retirement of former COO Jeff Williams later this year, according to Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman.
Williams, a key figure in Apple’s health initiatives, handed the COO role to Sabih Khan, the company’s former vice president of operations, back in July. Ahead of his departure, Apple is redistributing his remaining responsibilities among top executives.
Eddy Cue, Apple’s senior vice president of services, will take over leadership of the company’s health and fitness teams — a move that could pave the way for the rumored Health Plus subscription service. Software chief Craig Federighi will assume oversight of watchOS, while hardware leader John Ternus will take charge of Apple Watch hardware engineering.
Meanwhile, Bloomberg reports that Johnny Srouji, Apple’s senior vice president of hardware technologies, is “evaluating his future at the tech giant” just months after his division debuted Apple’s first in-house modem.
The shake-up extends to the fitness division as well. Apple fitness chief Jay Blahnik will now report to health VP Sumbul Desai, as the company conducts an internal investigation into his conduct. Both executives previously reported directly to Williams.
This follows an August report from The New York Times revealing that a former Apple employee has sued Blahnik, alleging he fostered a toxic work environment.
