Apple has officially ended support for its Clips video editing app, marking the end of an eight-year run. First launched in 2017, Clips offered a simple way to create short, social media–ready videos with music, text overlays, and filters. Over time, Apple expanded the app with augmented reality effects and more advanced editing tools, but development had noticeably slowed in recent years.
Now, Apple has quietly pulled the plug. The company has removed Clips from the App Store and updated its official support page with a straightforward notice: “The Clips app is no longer being updated, and will no longer be available for download for new users as of October 10, 2025.”
Existing users can continue using the app on iOS and iPadOS, at least for now. However, Apple advises saving any Clips projects directly to the Photos library to avoid losing them in the future. The support page includes detailed steps for exporting videos—with or without effects—so users can preserve their work even if the app eventually becomes incompatible with new versions of iOS.
While Clips never achieved the viral appeal Apple might have hoped for, it remains a notable chapter in the company’s efforts to blend creativity with social sharing for everyday users.
